AUDITION INFORMATION

NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR & CHOREOGRAPHER:
The vision of this production is to deconstruct and expose the story of – and face our
challenging fascination with – the Bonnie & Clyde lore in a theatrical direction that is atypical,
experimental, unconventional, nontraditional, minimal, ethereal, and conceptually provocative.
Seeking musical theatre performers with the capability of making strong acting choices. This
production is committed to diversity and encourages performers of all races, ethnicities, gender
identities, ages, abilities, body types, etc. to audition. This production is less interested in
strict historical realism and instead seeks emotional authenticity. While that is the goal for
casting, there is the possibility that the final cast could still accurately resemble these non-fiction
characters.

Because the vision of this show is aiming for emotional storytelling, acting choices through
movement are expected, as well. This is not a traditional approach, therefore, it is anticipated
that the ensemble may be asked to interpret movement or portray actions in different styles
throughout the show. Dance style influences may be lyrical, liturgical, contemporary, etc. so
anticipate some partner work, lifts, floor work, use of props, and more. Expectations are that you
are comfortable in close proximity to – and possibly touching – others when necessary, and
being able to reflect emotional story beats through movement. There may be improvisation
expected of you, and the process may become collaborative for some numbers.
Disclaimer: Bonnie & Clyde contains physical intimacy between adult characters, violence, and
the use of prop firearms. This production will rehearse with fight/firearm coordinators and
intimacy choreographers to create a safe environment with pathways for communication. Please

consider whether this production may be suitable for you to audition for and/or potentially be
cast in.

INITIAL AUDITION PREPARATION:

Please bring a headshot and resume (if you have one) and a list of conflicts from July 8 through September 22. A preliminary rehearsal calendar will be available at the auditions.  Each actor will also need to provide a filled-out audition form and the additional questions form.

 Auditions will be asked to sing a 32-bar cut (no longer than 90 seconds) of a song in the style of the show: pop, rock, folk, country, rockabilly, etc. (non-musical theatre is absolutely welcome) showcasing both strong acting/storytelling ability and musical range. Songs from the show are acceptable. Bring sheet music (preferred) or an accompaniment track (if necessary). A piano accompanist and Bluetooth speaker will be provided.

 

With enough interest, we would like to consider the potential of incorporating actor-musicians in the ensemble, albeit with the understanding that it would be a volunteer-based opportunity. If you play a musical instrument that would fit the orchestration needs of this show, please be prepared to demonstrate at the initial audition and/or callbacks. This includes string instruments like guitar, banjo, and fiddle.

CALLBACK AUDITION PREPARATION:

Callbacks will be invitation-only and will consist of dance, singing from the score, as well as cold readings from the script. For the dance callback, please dress appropriately and comfortably with sneakers or character/jazz shoes, if you have them. Some callback materials may be made available closer to audition dates.
